some sites not opening
I am using Ubuntu 9.04 with BSNL broadband connection with no problems except that I noticed two websites namely www.meebo.com and www.webs.com are not opening from my ubuntu..
however, they are opening from my windows..so i can well assume that there is no problem with the website or my connection...other sites are also opening normally..
can anyone help me solve my problem??

I can open both of the sites you mentioned just fine. You need to be more specific though. What browser do you use? What error message, if any, are you getting when trying to open these sites?

well www.meebo.com REQUIRES "Java Script "to be enabled to login Firefox's javascript- blocking and No-Script will cause that site not to work right.
www.webs.com looks like it is working just fine
i am using firefox 3.5.2

Are you trying to connect from your home, or from work/school?
Are you behind a firewall, proxy...
Do you use the same DNS servers in both systems?

how to check that??
I don't think it's a problem of the browser as those sites are not giving ping results also...i think it's a problem of the network configuration of my system...i may be wrong also...

In linux
Code:
cat /etc/resolv.conf
In windows
networksettings.
However, you can try to use open dns
Code:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

The sites ar blocking ping requests
I can't ping them.

The only reason I can see
firewall => To disable the firewall
proxy => Change the settings in the browser.
Do you use a hosts file to block unwanted sites?
Did you tried to use another browser?
What happens if you put
204.2.183.15
in the address bar of the browser?

I tried disabling the firewalls...but to no result..
the ip address you have given is the ip of www.webs.com...same result as typing the web address...
now the most weird thing happened..
i disconnected from the net....configured my bsnl broadband by issuing the command
and then connected to the net...now the sites are opening absolutely fine with no problems...i can't find a single hint to this...at that very moment i disconnected and connected via the network manager(nm-applet)...again the same problem comes back..
can u throw any light on the matter??

I don't see a reason for this.
You could try to use wicd instead of network manager.
