SNAFU with IPOD and /dev/sdd1

I'm stumped on this and hoping for some help with gaining upsight.

My ipod is working ok on my netbook (ubuntu 9.04) and office desktop (9.10) but I just upgraded the motherboard/cpu/memory on my home desktop and I can't mount the ipod.

I keep getting a popup saying "Unable to mount the volume IPOD", details: mount:/dev/sdd1 already mounted or /media/IPOD_busy.

I did have a /media/IPOD directory from previous versions of ubuntu which required some gymnastics to get ipods to work. Deleting the directory doesn't change the popup error though.

Any tips?

Try doing an "ls -dl /media{,/IPOD}" command on the machines that work, and on the machine that does not (when the IPOD is NOT attached), to verify that file permissions and ownership are the same. If not, do the appropriate mkdir/chmod/chown/chgrp on the non-working machine to make them be the same.

actually it's dynamic, the directory is created on the fly when the device is plugged in but the perms are drwx------ 9 myuid root ....

on my home system the directory isn't even created. I tried creating it manually but it didn't fly.

I'm in the process of trying to "upgrade" from 9.04 to 9.10... I'll see if I get lucky and have something snap into shape.
