SiS 760 graphics driver. Artifacts

Hi, I just installed ubuntu 5.10 and I'm seeing artifacts on the screen (diagonal lines, squares.. etc.) I googled and it turns out in all ubuntu forums I saw they say the drivers simply aren't good enough and the problem can't be fixed. I've been using opensuse for about a month and I didn't see any problems at all (excluding the lack of 3d support). So obviously there is a working linux driver. Can anyone please tell me how can I fix the problem with ubuntu.
