Can anyone tell me how to start samba at startup ?

I think that 'man init' and maybe 'man cron' can help you.
Depending of the distribution you use, there is also some configuration about 'services' to start ...

This wouldn't be a cron job, so don't worry about that. It has to do with your init runlevels, and what services are set to start at bootup time. So, as what was already said above, read up on man init, and you'll learn a little better of what you have to do to have smbd start at boot time.
