remove and replace font

I have a font I would like to remove an replace with a better model. The font in question is "Italian Cursive, 16c" It does not look anything like it should. At the site 'fontspace' I found the same font looking as it should. I tried to install it, thinking I would get an option to keep the current font of that name or replace it with the newer one. It's a zip file an reads as: "lord-kyl-mackay_italian-cursive-16th-c.zip" When I opened and extracted it, it shows this: "Italian Cursive, 14th c.TTF. When I tried to install it I get 'installation failed'.

I went to /usr/share/fonts to see if it could be remove from there but I was not able to track it down? I checked out /usr/local/share/fonts but that turned out to be empty.

If anyone can give me a hand with this, thanks are on their way.

Did you try looking in the hidden .fonts folder inside your home folder? I think that's where Ubuntu installs fonts when you don't get them through a package manager.

Question

I found the hidden .fonts folder. It was a hit an miss and I missed more times then I hit but finally I got it. The thumbnail image of the font looked as it should however when I tried previously to use it. The font came out looking more like a 'Times New Roman' then anything of a cursive style? I proceeded to delete the font in question from there then went into the Trash and removed all traces from there as well.

I went to the site from whence I got the font in the first place and following the usual routine installed it. Again the thumbnail image looked fine, yet when I opened Libre Office to test it again looked more generic then anything remotely cursive should appear? I repeated the removal steps and tried again from different font site. Unfortunately the results were the same, generic over cursive.

I like the font and would like to use it but I can not figure out how it can look one way in the .fonts folder and another when it is being used?

Any ideas??
