New Install
got a question
last night I tried to install Ubuntu 12.04 with NO luck, all I got was the start screen with two icons then a flashing cursor, my rom sounded like it was installing so I left it be, then I heard the Ubuntu start up Sound and NO GUI Desktop.
Just wondering if its because of my Graphics card not showing the screen, working on Win7 ok, I even installed the Ubuntu 9.10 which worked OK but I couldn't upgrade.
My graphics card is a GeForce GTS 450 dual DVI
Just wondering if i have to download the text install CD, any idea's to why this is happening

for those that are having the problem as me
Just got home after downloading the text install CD at work
install Ubuntu 12.04 OK, but it came up with a funny screen couldn't see jack all, so I rebooted and use the rescue option jump to the command line from there and ran
Code:
sudo apt-get install nvidia-current
, it did its thing by installing the software, it's about 104mb rebooted the PC and I'm now in a nice GUI desktop
hope it helps others out using the card graphics card I did.
cheers TT

My first impulse when I get no graphical display yet I know the system has booted is to temporarily edit the kernel line in grub.cfg. When the grub menu appears, hit the <Tab> key (I think that's the right key; read the screento be sure) to edit the Ubuntu entry. Go to the kernel line, and add "nomodeset" without the quotes, of course, then continue booting. This should force use of the vesa driver. If it works, it means Ubuntu isn't selecting the right graphics driver for your system.
