Need help with partitioning unmoveable file

Hi, I 'm new to linux and almost new at windows too so try to help with non-tech language.

I've decided to dedicate an old HP/Compac D230m computer as my Linux learning tool. It has unfortunate only 250 megabyte DDR RAM memory so maybe a bit less than what is best for Ubuntu 6.06 or 7.1?.

The harddisk now is owned by Win XP pro with 37Giga all in all but I have 27Giga free space but one big non-moveable files in it so I need some kind of program that could move the non-moveable files.

I need to make place for the three partitions for linux.

I have a Live CD for Ubuntu 6.06 so maybe that one have the resizing tool I need.Resizing tools could maybe move unmoveable files? Could someone help me get that confirmed?

Or is it not a big deal about the unmoveable? Could Linux work around it?
How do I find out what the unmoveable file is about? I mean I see it in Defrab but have no clue on what it is. VEry big!

(I maybe could use memory from another computer if the size is same. Both are HP/ Compac som hopefully their holders for memory are same.)

Big warm friendly smile.

I'm a newbie ok?

You have to tell me how to find out. I see it as a green column in defrag.

Have no clue on how to find it using search? Do you?

I use the Live CD now and is out on internet. Dearly hope no rootkit or similar jump at me.

Should I try to install to see what it says about the unmoveable file? There are posts on the internet that it is non-solvable problem. One have to reinstall windows. That is beyond a noob like me.

I told the installer to resize it and use 20% of free space to the partition needed for Linux. It works on the resizing now so hopefully that works?

EDIT

Failed to create enough space so the unmoveable destroyed its ability. How do I move it and how do I know which file to move using the linux live cd? I try now to chose a less big one if that fails too I will try biggest free space.

It doesn'tseeem to be the hiberfile and not the pagefile.

How do I find out what the name of the file is?

Could it be the swap file. Is that one safe to take away? I tried to find it but failed.

Could it be a restore point that have saved a kind of mirror of windows?

They say that Linux is able to move files. How do I set up the live CD so it shows the file and move it? I tried to say it should resize but it failed but gave no reason for its failure.

The trick is to force the pagefile to be 2 meg and then reboot. Now that big file is gone but windows warns that it is too small and want me to chose a bigger one. I chose to not comply and install linux and make the page file bigger after partitioning. 28Gb free space. Suppose I give some 30% to windows and 70% to Linux Ubuntu? Would that work? say 10gig of free space to windows?

Now I need to know how to partition cause the built in partitioner in Ubuntu UNetbootin failed.

That one needs somebody knowing more than I as a newbie knows about partitioning. the page linked to that was supposed to tell said that it has no goal to teach partitioning.

But to be able to put linux ubuntu on the hdd I need to partition it. So could someone please help me do it.

EDIT

qtparted on the live cd failed to resize the ntfs too.

What is going on here. I have defragged two times. all the space on right side are white. Why do I fail to resize it?

Is it true that windows protect the space for itself? That one need to delete a win prog named guardian or similar?

Could a moderator please change my subject title. I need to ask about why the resizing fails.

Should I start a new thread?
