Just installed breezy and am now trying to figure out how to make mplayer my default media player. Currently totem keeps popping up instead. I've noodled around with system>preferences>preferred applications, but see no option to change my media player. Any hints?
Thanks so much for the response. I understand the right-click and choose app. option, this is what I've been doing. Its the "set as default" part that is slipping through the cracks. I see no option to do this in the right-click menu.
When you right-click select properties and then click on the Open With tab. You then can click the radio button next to mplayer and hit OK. If it is not in the list click the add button and it will bring up a list of installed apps and then select mplayer and click Add then Close. That should set mplayer to be the default media player for the desired filetype.
Open KDE control center
Expand components
Select file associations
Expand video
For each file type that you want MPlayer to play by default select it and then move MPlayer up to the top of the preference order
Apply each change
