Just recieved my Ubuntu Cd's today!

Hello!

I just got my ubuntu cd's in the mail today and they are Perfect!

I ordered three. One for Mac systems (for my friend), one for 64-bit and the third for regular old pc's i guess.

My question is; I'm running an Intel P4 processor 506+ 2.66 GHz, 533MHz FSB 1MB L2 Cache (EM64T)

I take it that the reference to EM64T indicates that it supports 64-bit computing, but the ubuntu cd says "for AMD 64". Is that compatible with my box?

Thanks!

did they ship you the latest 6?

from the ubuntu site, it says:
Quote:
64-bit PC (AMD64) desktop CD
For computers based on the AMD64 or EM64T architecture (e.g., Athlon64, Opteron, EM64T Xeon). It is not necessary for all (even most) processors made by AMD -- only their 64 bit chips.
so you should be just fine.

Yep, its compatible with your rig. I just looked at the back of my 64-bit CD for 5.10 and it says

"This 64-bit edition will run on MAD64 or EM64T based computers."

I downloaded the install for 6.06, so I don't know if it says that or not. But I'm running an AMD64 based rig and the 64-bit 6.06 works fine for me.

Thanks everybody!

This is Really a Fantastic OS! I cant believe how simple it was to get my Lynksys wusb11 wireless up and going!

I really believe that one day Linux is going to knock Microsoft down a few notches! (Especially because of the way that MS controls its users. Talk about 'Spyware!' Most people dont realize that thier Microsoft cd comes Pre-loaded with the crap!)

But thats another story!

Thanks again!
