Internet connection gets disconnected within 2-3 minutes

Hello,
m using Xubuntu and i have set up my DSL connection manually. I get disconnected from the internet within 2-3 minutes. I have to again select eth0 from the network icon in the taskbar. it connects well but gets disconnected again and again. I dont face such problem when i use Win XP.
Any idea what might have gone wrong ?

Are you connecting via a router, modem....
wireless, via ethernet....
Is the connection lost with the internet or with the router?

i am connecting via ethernet. (pppoe with DSL modem)
i get the message pop-up like "Network connection is disabled".
then when i check log with "plog" i get something like "Modem hang-up".
everytime i have to check the eth 0 check box then it searches for IP Address and i get one dynamic IP. But it gets disconnected within 2-3 mins.

actually i restarted the PC and now i cant see any icon in taskbar (2 computers icon) .. and also net is not getting disconnected...
dont know what the problem is...
i will post the log file output whenever such problem occurs again
