How to install new icons?

Ubuntu 6.10
How do I install new icons I've downloaded. I thought all I'd have to do is copy them into usr/share/icons but it says I dont have permision. So what do I need to do?

The greenest of Linux users thanks you.

Go to System/Preferences/Theme. Then drag and drop your icon theme into the window
You can also do this for gtk or metacity themes.

I knew it would be something simple like that, I thought that was only for themes.
