how to customize the panel bar ( the top menu)

hi,
I tried the ubuntu 11.04, the desktop is different from the gnome,
I want to customize the top menu, for example, adding a button to close it or auto hide it? In gnome I just need to right-click to get the preferences !!

It is not the case in unity, how todo it?
thanks a lot
regards

Welcome to the "configuration free experience" that Ubuntu wants you to have.

Almost all configuration is now done throw the compiz control center. Make sure you have the Unity plug enabled.
