Have to reboot after scanning to print with HP PSC 750.

I have an HP Printer/Scanner (PSC 750) which works great in other distros. In Ubuntu (and a previous debian sarge install), I'm not able to get both functions working at the same time. I am running Dapper Drake, and can print fine from the printer until I open Xsane to access the device as a scanner. After that, whenever I try to print nothing happens, and eventually under printer properties I see a message "Printing: USB printer is busy; will retry in 5 seconds..."

If I cancel the print job and reboot, I'm able to print after that, and everything seems fine until I access the device as a scanner. I'm not sure where to go from here to troubleshoot this. Can anyone help point me in the right direction?

Are you using hplip or hpoj as your PSC driver. hplip is the most recent and may help fix the problem.

Actually, I checked and was using both. I guess that explains why it was behaving the way it did. Thanks for pointing this out!

I uninstalled the hpoj using synaptic and changed the line in etc/sane.d/dll.conf (tried both hplip and hpaio). Unfortunately, Xsane no longer sees the scanner. I'm guessing I should open a separate thread for this (getting the scanner working with the hplip driver).

This should be covered extensively under the hplip documentation/installation.

You may need to restart hplip and cups.
If that doesn't work, the following may be of help.

Using Slackware required some copying of hpaio files. This should not be necessary with Ubuntu as the package manager should set hplip up for you. Information only, an overview of what's happening in the system.
