Getting Buffer I/0 error

Hi I'm completely new to linux so i thought I'd give it a go.
I'm trying to install a copy of Kubuntu on a spare drive but i'm getting an error
Code:
sda:assuming drive cache:write though
buffer I/O error on device sda, logical block O
System is;
Dual P3 1ghz
Abit VP6 with IDE Raid
768mb ram
1x40gb IDE
1X20gb IDE
1X9gb IDE

So i'm assuming the install thinks i have no SATA drives (which it is correct) and cant detect ATA drives.
It also it stalls on installation step 5 of 6 which is scanning drives. I think it might be related with the above error.
How would i over come this? or do i get another ISO to burn?

Thanks.

Found the problem with the error. It was caused by my printer's card reader (canon MP130) as linux was thinking it was a external SATA drive and couldn't read it. So I unplugged it during install and had no problems.

How peculiar. I'll have to remember that one...

Thanks!
