DVD Playback Problems!

I installed Ubuntu Linux and i used the unofficial ubuntu guide to apt-get and install codecs, mplayer, libdvdcss2 and other packages to play dvds. Now when i insert a dvd totem starts but shows nothing but a black screen (also no sound). The progress bar below the totem video window moves like it plays the dvd for a couple of seconds and then stops.
I tries Mplayer but when i click on play disc i get the following error and then Mplayer Crashes!

"Mplayer interrupted by signal 11 in module: decode_audio"

-Mplayer crashed by bad usage of CPU/FPU/RAM

My system is a PIII 800MHz, 256MB RAM, NVidia GeForce2 MX 32MB.

I had installation issues (no x enviroment at boot) but i solved them by using xorgconfig. I tried to install the nvidia drivers using the ubuntu guide and apt-get and i think (i say that because at the last step i got an error about error: x has changed). I post below my xorg.conf file in case it helps to solve the problem.

Any ideas would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Now - I got the same thing with totem.

apt-get install totem-xine
apt-get install libdvdcss2

totem just shows a black screen when a dvd is inserted, just like arkas said. uninstalling libdvdcss2 lets it work, but won't play encrypted dvds.

If I read this right, arkas installed totem-xine second - so maybe I should reinstall this?

Interestingly the ubuntu guide seems to thing that totem-gstreamer will play dvds if the css libs are installed - and, presumably, all the gstreamer plugins are too. I've never seen this happen and google dosn't seem to know anyone who can make this work. I see the ubuntu guide also has a howto for installing xineui et al - so maybe the author dosn't use totem for dvds?

whansard is right about mplayer - you have to fiddle the settings to get dvds to play. Also the deb package in therepo has to be right. Another install method is to follow the source install from www.mjmwired.net, only apt-get all the dependancies and only compile the mplayer sources.
