Dapper & Amarok

Hello.

I have been using breezy with amarok for months, I have just upgraded last week to dapper, for the life of me I can't get amarok to play mp3s anymore. I have tried the xine engine and the arts engine with no luck. The xine engine is what I used to use. Now it skips through the songs without playing them.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Craig

Took me a while, but I got it yesterday. You need the multiverse repository, then you need libxine-extracodecs.

deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper multiverse
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper multiverse

I used adept and cloned the universe entries, and just changed them to multiverse.

Thanks Pete.

I have never had a problem with this before, it's strange. I have installed libxine-extracodecs, still exactly the same though.

Unless I am doing something wrong, this is exactly what I did after installing (and re-installing) dapper....

apt-get install amarok
apt-get install amarok amarok-xine
apt-get install libxine-extracodecs

There are no errors during the installs. xmms installs fine and works fine, playing mp3's.

Amarok however, still won't play anything. I have no idea what can be causing it.

Thanks again.

The only thing else is to make sure you close amarok completely, as by default is docks to the system tray.

You may want to uninstall and reinstall amarok and xine.

I'm stuck intrying to get libxine-extracodecs to install it keeps saying can't be found when I try and use apt-get to install it. I've added to my sources.list file so it should be availible but it still won't work.

MY source.list file:

libxine-extracodecs is in the multiverse repository.
Make sure you do a "sudo apt-get update" before trying to install.

Thanks for the info. It was really just me having a brain fart and forgetting about having to update after modifying the file.
