X server problems in Breezy & Dapper

When I attempt to boot the Live CD all goes well until it attempts to start the GUI, this happens in every livecd I've tried, but in 2 out of 3 I found a fix, however I can't seem to fix the ubuntu cd...
I'm using an ATI radeon x600, I've had this problem with almost every linux installation, but I can't seem to get a fix in Ubuntu linux in either Breezy Badger or Dapper Drake Live CD's. I was able to get PClinuxOS and Mepis live CD's running using a Vesa driver, but I haven't had as much luck in Ubuntu, which I really want to try... any assistance would be appreciated.

First do an Alt+Ctl + F2 to go to a shell.

Then ...

Search your xserver package installed:

dpkg -l xserver*

Once you'll find the correct name:

dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

Hope it helps!!
