Customising xubuntu

Hi,

I want to combine both panels to have the applications menu, and open tasks in one panel.

i removed the default panel two and moved panel one to the bottom of the screen, but my open tasks would not show and I had to use alt + tab to access them.

How can I combine the panels so I have something resembling the windows start bar?

Additionally, is there any way to set the panel color separate from the rest of the windows? It seems no matter what theme I choose they are the same colors, which is not ideal for me.

Thanks.

edit: I just noticed that nothing I do gets the clock in the panel to display local time. if I use the date command, or update with ntp etc the time is always correct, but it always shows about 6 hours ahead in the actual panel....ideas?

Right-click on the panel and choose "add to panel" and add "task list" or "window list" or whatever it is called in Xubuntu. It is called task list on XFCE in Slackware. Ubuntu calls it window list. I am not sure what Xubuntu calls it, but it should be fairly obvious from the description.

If you only have 1 panel at the bottom, just right-click on the panel and add the "Xubuntu Main Menu" (or whatever it is called in Xubuntu) to the panel. You can then move the main menu to where you want it. Right-clicking on the menu and choosing "edit menu" should allow you to edit the menu the way you want. You should have this menu as the default in the Xubuntu desktop as far as I know.

Not sure about that one.

Not sure about that one either. I have seen other people report this, but I have not found a solution.
