Could not set up Xdisplay Server?

I tried running an Ubuntu Live disk, after a failed attempt to run a Mepis Live disk. Both failed for similiar reasons, the boot went well, but the GUI didn't load. Mepis gave me a CLI and Ubuntu did not give me a CLI, but gave me an idea of what went wrong.

Informing me that it failed to set up my Xdisplay Server or something to the like. I assume this is the same kind of problem that occured with Mepis, I'm wondering what I can do to fix it.

seems like you need to pass some boot options to the kernel while you boot. Is that monitor an LCD or a CRT?

Hopefully we can get you up 'n' running here shortly

Try passing the xdriver=vga to see if that helps at all

at the GRUB screen, hit 'e' to edit the boot parameters. add xdriver=vga to the end of that line to see if you can boot with a generic video driver.

It appears to be the same as my bug:

Admittedly, I haven't run any other OS distros... I only have one CD and so far I'm liking PClinuxOS a lot (aside from the minor graphical glitches I'm experiencing as is) I'm considering installing it soon.

but for me running pclinuxos with the line "livecd xdrv=vesa" fixed the problem somewhat... using a generic driver worked.

Where you choose what operating system you want to boot (if you only have one operating system, you may not see it long...or at all) is the GRUB screen. Thisis a screen shot of GRUB.
