Ubuntu 14.04 was released. As anticipated there was a spike in the number of reviews.
Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. The reviewer even provides a picture and write up of the Tahr.
Just as an aside, the bottom of the article shows a variety of Ubuntu related books, these books (based on what I have bought) have been somewhat useless since they don't really cover the features to be contained in the upcoming release (as these books have been prepared in advance).
Below is a 20 minute U-Tube video. Quite interesting. The reviewer notes that this version of Ubuntu represents a good opportunity to entice MS WIndowsXP users to move over to Linux. The Linux community needs to actively advertise (implement a public information campaign) Linux as being an alternative to MS Windows. Ubuntu 14.04 LTS "Trusty Tahr" Review
I have downloaded 14.04 to two machines. Both with a Athlon 64 CPU. One works just fine. The other with a duel boot with Windows 7 seems to lock up playing videos and software installs. Not sure what is causing this but since this machine is running Windows 7 as well it is not a big issue, yet. When it works, it is faster than 13.10 and 12.04 LTS. Also do like the small but useful improvements.

Older nvidia chip? I went through the same (no Windows) with 14.04 Net install using nouveau driver on legacy nvidia chip and fixed it installing the nvidia driver in place of nouveau.
Seems a conflict between 3.13 kernel and legacy nvidia chips using nouveau.
I decided to give 14.04 a try after taking out the AMD RV710 graphic card (Radeon HD 4550) from the AMD Athlon 64. Installation appeared to be successful. However, as I customized the installation the computer became ever more sluggish. Eventually it froze. I experimented with several options to no avail. Finally, as a last ditch effort, I decided to do a fresh reinstall of 14.04, only to get the error message that the install "failed". At that point I gave-up.
I stuck my Ubuntu 13.10 disk in and reinstalled 13.10 on the computer. Everything went smoothly. The hope now is that Canonical will be able to fix Ubuntu 14.04 so that is will work with the AMD Athlon 64 computer.
