centrino duo - using the 686 smp kernel kills the sound

Hi

I have installed Dapper on a Dell i9400 laptop. It has the centrin duo processor so I installed (via the official apt repos) the 686 smp kernel.

My problem now, is that it has killed the sound for the machine - it works fine if I boot into the 386 single proc kernel.

Any ideas? I realise that the Dapper is testing, but I think it is more to do with the kernel build. Should I report this as a bug do you think??

Cheers
Steve

Probably because it would have different kernel headers??

redo also... you may need to remove and rteinstall alsa, but I would just try to run 'sudo alsaconf'... if it detects the soundcard module, then your good, just add it and adjust your volume levels.. good luck.

Cheers for that, but I just did an apt update, which included the kernel / kernel header, and the sound is now working once more. My guess is it was a know bug - I am running Dapper after all :-)

Cheers
Steve
