Debian Kernel 2.6 686 SMP

What is the best way to upgrade my Debian "kernel 2.6-386" to "2.6 686 SMP?"

I have do the 7 CD set, however, I do not have my network configured yet.

Also, is their a boot command for the installation CD that will load the 2.6 686 SMP kernel?

If you don't need 64 bit, try apt-get install kernel-image-2.6-686-smp on Sarge

Or compile your own. Search for "compile kernel debian way"

Thanks That worked great. No errors.

Do I need to reconfigure the new kernel? If so, is there an "auto" way of (detecting devices) and automatically configuring - (like what happens when you do your first install and your computer is automatically checked for devices and compiled for you)?

I don't think so, there should be autodetect already running on boot (discover ???). But if something's not working right, you can always do a base-config or for graphics dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 (or xserver-xorg depending on what you have installed).
