I'm aware! I've tried ubuntu myself at one time, but found the package system to lack most of my regular packages (a few years ago though, might be better now).
Debian was also my favourite distro until I encountered Gentoo (about 2 years ago).
I should have put two and two together, but I just read "I had Kubuntu Dapper running fine, but when I installed Edgy it all collapsed...". I'm an expert at jumping to conclusions. Which is not a nice trait, I know...
