Alsa sound problems
Hi all. First things first. I had a problem with my onboard soundchip. Apparently it was not supported by Alsa.
I went and bought a Soundblaster Live 24-bit card for $30 and popped it in. Luckily, I hopped onto the Ubuntu IRC channel and crimsun (thank you!) helped me compile alsa-source and got my sound set-up.
It was working great, but the next day I woke up and turned the computer on. Sound is still working but it's extremely distorted and choppy. I had installed mplayer the same night, including the w32 codecs, so it would work with the Quicktime format. Went to apple.com to test on a trailer and I'm getting great video but distorted sound. My System>Multimedia is setup for ESD. If I play a mp3 file through beep-media player I have to set it up for OSS. When I do this, it works fine and has great sound quality. If I change it to esd or alsa then I get distorted sound again and beep has to restart after freezing.
I'm sure it's something that's not configured properly on my end. Being a noob, however, (been using Ubuntu for about 2 weeks now) I'm not sure what it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Btw-got my new Ubuntu t-shirt in the mail today and it's very comfy Looks good too!
