Sound problems alsa 1.9

Hi all,
I am encountering an error every time I try to play an MP3. It says Gstreamer error /dev/dsp/ is already in use. I have upgraded the alsa drivers but still no progress.
Any help will be really appreciated, I am using mandriva 10.2 limited edition.

Thank you all
Adam

make sure using gstreamer you are using the ALSA output sink and not OSS
might have to turn off kde arts sound server if it's running ?? not sure
something must have a lock on the old OSS /dev/dsp
