Just because Microsoft Windows itself is a proprietary, closed-source operating system doesn't mean that the software giant isn't open to open source. "We're seeing open source applications adopted on the Windows platform," Ramji told InternetNews.com. Right now, in the recession, Microsoft see it as in their best interests to court and promote open source apps. It makes sense, companies are probably saying "why pay for MS Office when Open office is free?". But what about after the downturn? At some point things will get better, will that then mean that Microsoft will pack up tents and go back to non-OSS?
