Debian GNU/Linux is now 15 years old -- which isn't too shabby for an operating system. Yet though Debian is still alive and kicking, I'm not so sure it holds the market position that it should at this point in its maturity.

Maybe the Debian philosophy isn't compatible with being a business? I think they'd need to do it as an off-shoot - a wholly owned by fully independent distro, kind of an Ubuntu-like but purer Debian. That way you'd have the long term support, the ability to bend the philosophy where it conflicts with doing business and an up/down stream of ideas and updates.
