LXer: 10 reasons why is Microsoft buying Skype!

Published at LXer:

This is a biased post. Biased towards FREE people using the FREE internet! And certainly against the blogging policies of being neutral, but no harms! Everyone is changing the policies; Microsoft is being altruistic supporting its ultimate rivals – the open source community; and hence changing its policies. If the IT tycoons are changing their policies then why not tiny bloggers!

You know this means the end of Skype on Linux...no way ms will allow this on a competing platform...

We may need to look elsewhere for VOIP solutions...

My two cents, of course.

By the way - you spelled microsoft with a capital m...typo?

Microsoft is the name of a company and so should be spelt with a capital M. These stories come to us via a feed from LXer, so it's not possible to have a "conversation" with them.

I agree that we will see the end of Skype on Linux. This is a shame - both for the users and for Microsoft - as Microsoft could have had a way to present their offerings to Linux users. It certainly hasn't damaged Google (Picasa and Google maps to name two apps) and Micosoft would end up with a large number of beta users who would provide honest feedback on products and potential fixes for bugs/issues.

Ooooooooooooooops, I was talking to an appliance how silly can I get? Can I subscribe?
Anyway, yes, a shame Skype is all but gone for us now. I am/was using it for language lessons...

Maybe an other application? We'll see.

Sorry about my silly behaviour (laughin loudly - mostly at myself)

No worries. The only one I really know of is Ekiga, though there are undoubtedly many others. I guess you'll need to try a load out to see which suits you best - good old open source

I think it would be rather silly of MS to ditch skype on Linux. At the end of the day I think they still need the Skype brand to sell as well as use the technology for their enterprise products.
