yast won't load

I'm a NooB in the world of Linux and I've installed SuSe 9.3 a couple of days ago with a ftp install.

Today I was looking at "Add/remove program" in Yast. I've installed some stuff and removed also some stuff. I think too much.

Now Yast won't load anymore and YOU doesn't work too. I think I've uninstalled some software of Yast. Is there a way to install software without Yast except the console because I don't understand yet.

Is it possible to fix these problems or is the best way to start all over again??
I've no problems with other programs in Suse.

Thank you!!

Yast is a GUI from end to the rpm program. Anything that Yast can install can be installed on the command line using rpm. The command to install package coreutils-5.2.1-23.8.i586.rpm from a directory called /root/rpms is:

rpm -i /root/rpms/coreutils-5.2.1-23.8.i586.rpm

See:
man rpm

There is also a KDE GUI program called kpackage which can be used to install rpms. You can start kpackage from the menu or you can enter the kpackage command from the command line.

hey, i had thesame problem when i first installed 9.3, all i did was run yast from a konsole. from there i updated everything using the ftp site ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/linux/suse/ftp.sus....3/yast-source and also misc/update_for_9.3/yast-source (add these to installation media-then go to package selections and go to the bottom, "zzz- All" and right click on any of the rpms and select all in list-update if newer version available)
also i then ran the YOU from a konsole, rebooted the machine and everything ran fine

hope this helps, and you get the same luck as me, cos yast2 runs fine now
cheers
chris
