Yes the upgrade is for someone with a pre-installed version of SUSE. I believe that the choice of upgrading or fresh install is based on whether or not you have a pre-installed version of SUSE.
The difference between the Upgrade and the Full version is the manuals, or lack thereof. The Upgrade still has all the software that's in the Full version. You can do an update or a clean install with the Upgrade version.
Since SuSE 7.3 I've always bought the Upgrade version. I don't need all those manuals so may as well try and save a tree !!!
I have the free 9.1 & 9.2 and have been very happy with Suse. I want to buy 9.3 to help support and get the missing items.
I see the 5 cd 9.3 listed for less than $15. Is this the correct price? Seems too cheap.
No, not at all unusual. Vendors like Cheapbytes have been packaging bare bones versions of the distros for a long time. The tradeoff is that you get no support nor hardcopy documentation. As most of the code in an official distro isn't authored by the original distro vendor any repackaged distro will usually contain the same thing with the exception of a few items that might have special licensing requirements.
I recently purchased a SuSe 9.3 Pro 5 CD set for $16.49 and other than an easily correctable installation bug the CDs were flawless.

Am I allowed to ask where you got this product, or does that constitute a commercial endorsement?
