Well, for my hosting needs I always choose http://www.bakahost.com I am not very technical with this sort of stuff like apache, etc. so they always help me out and such... i am running a game server with them right now and its wicked fast.. everyone (including dial upers) -ewww, get low pings.. i love it
.. but yeah, they have great rates and 100 % uptime basically.. ive used it for about 4 months now and its never gone down once.. i recommend them
Distribution: as if i could pick just ONE. i am on fbsd ultra sparc 64 right now.

that bakahost place looks pretty good. i emailed them about their pricing and they responded in 10 mins. not bad, not bad at all. the prices are really cheap for what you get. i think i am gonna go with the basic package 1.3gig 256megabyte ram 20gig harddrive and 50gig transfer for 69.99 a month.
i am not really sure what to run on it though. linux or fbsd? what would be better? they offer almost every flavor of linux and unix preinsalled. i have never used freebsd although i have heard it is more stable for hosting then debian. (what i run at home)
