What is " Stupid Mode " in a suse 10 firewall?

The book that came with my suse 10 os discs was printed for an administrator and not for a newbie computer illiterate like me.

What does stupid mode do or not do??

‘Stupid Mode’

This option is enabled by default. With it, input prompts sent by the ISP's server are ignored to prevent them from interfering with the connection process.

---> I think that in the days of dialup this had meaning when the isp doesn't respond as usual during dialin. Also known as "passive" option to "pppd"

The cable company on Staten Island is a gross rip-off so I still use dial up.
