Using Maxon BP-3 modem

I have a Bigpond USB Next G Wireless Broadband modem which I am wanting to use with Suse 10.2.
Telstra do not support Linux so I am looking for advice on how to make this work.

I have tried Quozl's web page. It works on severall versions of Linux but I can't make it operate on Suse 10.2 I have also tried Xandros using Crossover to run the Windows XP drivers but this will not work either.
It is so frustrating not being able to get wireless broadband working in Linux.

I have made some progress, I can communicate with the modem, however it times out trying to connect to my ISP.
I used insmod \/lib/modules/2.6.18.2-34-default/kernel/drivers/usb/serial/usbserial.ko vendor=0x16d8 product=0x6280
(the error was leaving a space between "default /kernel")
Then configuring the modem using kppp.
