"Unable to open USB device "usb://hp/LaserJet%201000": No such device"

I'm trying to print using an HP Laserjet 1000, and I get the following error in CUPS:

""Unable to open USB device "usb://hp/LaserJet%201000": No such device" "

So, how do I create USB device "usb://hp/LaserJet%201000"? I'm assuming it's more complex than just going into the BASH shell and typing "md usb/hp/LaserJet%201000"

I've googled for this, and gotten two responses. One is incomplete and in Spanish (Google was able to translate), the other was apparently in Chezc (sp) and Google threw up its hands at the concept of translating it.

Have you loaded the special file: 'sihp1000.img' into /etc/printer ? During boot, you will see (and hear) mandrake load this driver into the printer; the printer will go through it's initialization routine. The file can be had by downloading the windoze driver package from HP, and unzipping it. Without this file, mandrake (and cups) cannot talk to the printer.

If you have already done all these things, then I'm clueless!

BTW, Mandrake is the only linux distro I've found (so far) that supports the HP 1000, with it's goofy GDI drivers.

Good luck.

As a matter of fact, I have. I have a new error, the following device isn't available:

"Unable to open USB device "usb://hp/LaserJet%201000": No such device"
Device URI: socket://localhost:9100/
