Update screwed system up

I'm a newbie too!
Suse 9.3
Last night I went into the update(through yast) and I updated everything that it recommended and everything went through ok but once i rebooted it gave me an error that says
"Ramdisk: Couldn't fine valid RAM disk image strting at 0.
VFS: Cannnont open root device "382" or unknown-block(3.2)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernal panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(3.2)"

What is this? I'm pretty sure that there was a kernal patch in there but I have no idea what it's talking about and i'm a total newb. so plz help me in any way u can!

Thanks

Steve Ervin

Are you using lilo? If this is the case, one needs to re-install lilo after the kernel update. Try to boot from your installation CD and run the system repair:
