Unable to hibernate in OpenSuSe 12.2 Gnome

Hi,

I downloaded the Live Gnome iso of OpenSuse 12.2, burned it to a USB pendrive and installed it on my Acer Aspire 5738z laptop over my previous install of version 12.1 of the same distro.

When I select the hibernate option from the User Menu, nothing happens. I mean, the screen goes blank but the top panel with Activities, Date, etc., is visible. It remains like this till I tap the touchpad and then it reverts back to the lock screen.

When I try pm-hibernate from command line, I get no output. However, the suspend option from User menu works fine.

Any suggestions?

Thanking in advance,

Hi,

I can't help and just want my interest in this question to be added to the mix. In my experience, suspend hibernate and even lock screen have always been hit and miss with SUSE, especially on laptops. Have had similar problems to the specific one you report.

With some installations, some of the functions just don't work at all. With others, all functions basically operate, but not reliably. Hibernate for example works fine with suse 12.1 on this laptop, but does not always return to exactly the same state. eg. wvdial often fails to find a modem after hibernate.

I'd like to know what to research, if anyone can advise? Is this just a displaymanager thing, KDE3/4, gnome etc? Or is it usually all the same for every kind of session on a given laptop?

Regards...

andrew
