What do I need to have installed on my SuSE10 box in order to play these files...I have download and installed 'essential win32 codecs' to /usr/lib/win32 directory....xine will still not play these files...please advise...and thanks
verdeboy2k - yes I have xine version .99.0.4 installed... along with the win32 codecs...I've been considering Mplayer for awhile...alot of packages to install and still the chance that it doesnt work.
EclipseAgent - I've tried adding to the YAST repository(sp?) but to no avail...for whatever reason my source isnt recognized...given up trying that route...libxine should be installed already, since I have Xine running on my machine. true/false?
The libxine and other packages on the packman site will be different. You could go to the http://www.pbone.net website to locate and download packages. The advanced search allows you to filter for your distro. Also select "Other SuSE". This website has a nice feature where you can check for dependencies. I you need something else, a link is provided so you can download it right a way. Download the needed packages and use "sudo rpm -Uhv packagename" or "sudo /sbin/yast -i packagename" to install them.
By the way, if you want to install 5 packages due to dependencies, you don't need to install one at a time. You could use "sudo rpm -Uhv package1 package2 package3 ..."
Installing from an rpm file you downloaded, you need to include the entire filename.
jschiwal - thanks for the tip on multiple installs, it sounds like the best solution I've heard of. Also thanks for the dependencies info...thats always has been a pain to deal with. One more Q, do I need to uninstall the version of Xine I have?
I'd recommend that you uninstall the xine and kaffien package that came with SuSE. There some differences in naming conventions between SuSE and packman for xine RPM's.
