Tell us about your SuSE install procedure. Smooth? Not??

I did a net overwrite install of 10.2 over a wired connection. Once I figured out that I needed the kmp module for madwifi and the associated setup command line info (I don't know why this wasn't on the distro) I flipped to my NetGear 511T wireless NIC with no problems at all.

Now I'm looking for all the medial players for firefox so I can watch those news videos (tips welcome

For some reason,the 10 series of Suse has had problems in two areas on my computer..(Asus p4p800deluxe MB)
One, is being able to get to the internet from behind my linksys router useing the Tulip module..Never has installed properly during installation..
Second, is my parallel port printer(hp810c) that never configures and even later after configuration,printing is painfully slow..
Other than those glitches it works for me..

as someone who has run SuSE since version 5.3, i know what to expect
and how to work around the few issues i run into....so i have to say
that my recent install of x64_10.2RC1 went smooth.....personally i
would rather have the text mode yast than the GUI, so when the GUI
doesn't work for whatever reason, it is a plus lol

Mine went very well. I had it up and running in about 1.5 hours. For two days I have been searching for a resolution to "modem is busy" and am going back to windows. I have not tried wireless yet. I was so hopeful I could leave microsoft behind.

I guess I lost it. 9.1 installed, but not smoothly. It worked great for 2 years until I installed 10.1, which is working, but three days is not what I call "smooth". You can try a NDISWrapper and use the windows drivers:

I know a friend that uses it for a lot of his devices that he couldn't get working in linux.

Just a thought.

I've had no problems installing 10.1 on the old box (933Mhz, 512m ram, Nvidia 6800, 120G hd) to coexist with WinME first, then XPpro. Also, only one glitch when installed on the new box (3.2Mhz dualcore, 2g ram, Nvidia 7300 (soon to be replaced), haupTV150, and 500g hd) to coexist with WinMCE Pro--the tv card is yet unrecognized. When I get time from this horrifying deadline doom, I will see if I can slap the os into line...

Took 5 Different attempts to get this guy to install. it would freeze up near the end of the first disk. FInally got it to install and now it won't recognize my ethernet or wireless card. I have it running but I may go back to Slack or Ubuntu

I did not notice anything I could not do with the partitioning tool that accompanies 10.2--and I am no expert at partitioning. It seems quite a bit more intuitive than Debian's, for example, but there is no accounting for tastes.

never once had a problem with partitioning, set my root, my user, and my swap no problem in previous versions of SuSE, and set up 10.2 with ext3 FS.

I installed 10.0 and it went smoothly. 10.1 was also very smooth with the exception of software update/install and adding yast sources - problems with that continue in 10.1 for me to this very moment.

I switched to the smart package manager, but
i wish the zen updater worked properly.

Hardware detection was excelllent, and it works very well,for the most part.

The SUSE 10.1 install was perfect however.....
The mouse that was attached during the install doesn't
work under GNOME. It was probed and an entry was created in
xorg.conf This is a 2 button PS/2 mouse(8 pin).
The synaptics touchpad is always working on this Compaq 1830 Laptop.
Under Suse, shouldn't both deices work concurrently ?

It may be worth your time to consider upgrading to SUSE 10.2. The update problems and other broken stuff in 10.1 (one of the worst SUSE distributions ever) were largely repaired in 10.2.
