LCD Display fonts not smooth - SuSE 9.1 personal

Hi, I've just installed SuSE 9.1 personal, and am noticing that my LCD display is really "pixelly"... not sure how to describe that, other than to compare it to Windows ... In XP I have the option to show "ClearType", which smooths out the fonts (gives everything nice "buttery" edges, without the ClearType, things looks pixelated. I'd like to be able to do something like this, change the configuration on how things look on the monitor, because it's hard to read things at the moment (causing eye strain). Maybe it's the dpi? Seems like things need to be "filled in"...

I'm writing this post in Windows, and in comparison, it seems like there are more pixels here or something. I thought I was at 1024x768, but how can I check? Is this stuff I missed configuring in YaST? Or do I fix this in the KDE Control Center? Or is there any help at all?

I'm running SuSE 9.1 personal on a
Gateway 450x
2.00 GHz Pentium 4
512 ram
ATI Mobility M6 video driver
dual boot WinXP (17GB)/Linux SuSE (11 GB)

Hoping that my vague description will ring a bell with someone --- thanks!

In the KDE control centre, there should be an option 'Use anti-aliasing for fonts' in the section 'Appearance & Themes' -> 'Fonts'

May may also need to install freetype2 (YaST).

niima,

I have absolutely the same problem.

And I am already tired to hear smart advises about great feture "Anti-aliasing".
I can not read text, it harts my eyes.
The current fonts are really bad.
(or may be this is a problem with screen settings?)

I have "SuSE Linux 9.2 Professional" installed on the notebook with screen-resolution 1024x768.
By the way Windows 2000 runs perfectly without any complain.

I alreay tried to set up fonts in KDE3 but it did not work.
I have installed TrueType fonts (coppied from my Windwos 2000) but it also
did not work.

I don't belive that there are only 2 person on the whole planet that have the same problem.

Or may nobody is using laptops or TFT displays??????

HELP!!!!
Please help anybody.
