My friend had me install OpenSuse on his pc; because he didn't want to pay for Windows. I installed everything and updated. I put 2 accounts kde, he has a roomate, and everything was peachy. He got it home and the second account stopped letting his roomate on. I came over and set up the webcam, deleted that account and created another and transferred his files. He got on tweaked his desktop/not his resolution as i'd suspected/ and when he restarted the pc, not working it stops when you'd see the kde status screen and returns to the menu. My friend brought his pc back and said that after an accidental power down the same thing happens with his account. I'm baffled, I've installed OpenSuse on 3 pcs and Suse 9.3 on more, but never encountered this before. Is there any fixing this problem?

Can you switch to a command line VT and log in there as root (or any of the users you expect to log in as)?
You may then be able to check the logs (/var/log/messages may be a place to start), and see what is happening.

Switching to a VT can be acheived by using CTRL-ALT and one of the F-keys. VT 7 is normally where the graphical session runs, and VT 1 is a safe bet here.

You may also be able to use a SuSe CD as a rescue disk without going command line, but I will admit I have never tried that.
