no sound

Captain,

If your sound is working under root but not in your user account your sound card is configured correctly. Most likely the sound is muted in your user account. If your using SuSE 9.3 your probably using ALSA sound tool. Go to your Multimedia directory, then go to Volume Control and look for ALSA Volume Control GUi. Check to make sure the Volume Control is not muted. If you've updated ALSA recently, you may have run alsaconfig in your user account. Another thing to check is to go to your Control Panel and click on Sound System and look to see what sound system is listed for default... ie ALSA, ARTS, or whatever. You can look at the same setting in your root account and make sure your user account matches. Anyway, hope this helps.
