Smart repos - apt vs yast

Due to the current problems with yast I've been using smart package manager and I'm getting along well with it so far but I have a question about repos.
I have 2 yast sources configured in smart - the oss inst-source and non-oss inst-source.
The rest of the repos are made up of pacman and apt sources taken from apt4suse, which includes base and extra.
The apt base and extra repos seem to contain identical stuff to the yast oss and non-oss repos.
So my questions is, is there any point having both? is it safe to remove the yast base repo in favour of the apt one? Will it cause any problems or are they indeed identical packages, just coming from a different source?
Incidentally, ALL the apt sources are from gwdg.de - ftp4.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt SuSE/10.1-i386

The YaST sources are the official SuSE sorces. The Packman/Apt sources (unless they point to the same URL) are not official. Many of the Apt sources in sources.list are produced (so I've heard) by SuSE employees on their own (don't know if it's true). Basically, you take your chances venturing away from the official sources.
