realplay or hxplay not in system path

So I wanted to watch a realplayer movie online so I followed the instructions for installing realplayer from real. So I did it and now I get the title's message. I probably shouldn't have, but I install real in a subdirectory of my home directory. What should I do?

You need to install it somewhere like /usr/local/RealPlayer and then create a symlink to the realplayer executable as follows,
Code:
#ln -s /usr/local/Realplayer/realplay /usr/local/bin/.

Question "realplay or hxplay not found in system path"

I wanted to listen to AirAmericaRadio.com and clicked the listen now button. It gave me two choices. I picked windows media to see if the d/l from packman made it work... I don't know if it would have eventually or not... it took long enough for me to give up. Nothing should take that long as this machine is a AMD 64-bit based and while it isn't the smokingest... it is kinda smokey at least.

So I think chose realplayer and I got the error message above.

Before I had tried to listen to real stuff and it said to install the realplayer. I did, in my home directory. Should I have done it somewhere else? Can I gui the real path into the system path? I'm allergic to the console.

Thanks! Love you guys and gals!

You can add your local realplayer path to the PATH variable by editing /etc/profile.local. You can do this from a GUI, but you need to edit this file "by hand". You can use konqueror in system administration mode and use kwrite to edit the file. Add a single line to the end of the file:

export PATH=$PATH:/your/path/to/realplayer/bin

After that, save and restart.

Since both your threads deal with essentially the same problem,I have merged them to keep the answers in one easily finable place.
