OpenSuse Leap15 and Secure Boot

I have an HP Pavilion 10 X2 running Open Suse Leap 15, even though secure boot is disabled in EFI and there are no secure boot certificates stored, Suse still installed as secure boot. Is that the default for an EFI install?
It may be a quirk of this machine's EFI but I'm unable to disable secure boot, I can select the option in EFI/Bios but it's not persistent.

I think so:-
Secure boot is an extension of UEFI.

If your pc can run in legacy mode (the old BIOS mode) or EFI mode and in a hybrid mode that you have a UEFI machine.

If your machine boots into Open Suse w/o any problems I would leave things set as they are:-

Well yes, I was planning on dual booting with Mint 19 on the second Disk (this machine has a 1TB HDD in the detachable keyboard) so I'd like to temporarily disable secure boot for the installation (AFAIK Mint 19 supports secure boot.)

If you can't disable secure boot in your BIOS than I'm not sure what else you can do.

If you plan on installing Mint on the same HDD with Open Suse Mint will take over the boot but you will have to run 'sudo grub-update' in Mint's terminal the first time you boot into it after the install.

What make and model computer is this?
