After the machine was automatically rebooted during installation of SUSE it started finishing up the installation and my mouse froze. I had to use my keyboards. When I got to the Configuring Hardware(I think it was) my machine froze. I turned off the power and started up SUSE again. This time it went to the login screen and I went to move my mouse over to the password box. The mouse froze again so I keyed through it. Once logged in to the desktop I found out that I had no internet connection so I couldn't try updating. I'm using the integrated Ethernet. I am guessing that it doesn't like my ethernet. I have the KDE installed so I hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and hit enter on "Shut Down". Then computer started shuting down then froze. Another problem is that my sound doesn't work. It's doesn't seem to like the integrated sound.
For the mouse, assuming you had an otherwise working system, the first thing you would need to do is fire up a console. Then you can run Sax2 in CLI and change your mouse.
However, it seems like your system is not in good running order. You really need to do some testing first. Have you used the computer with another OS, maybe enough to know the machine is stable and working right? For instance you say dual boot with Windows... does that mean your machine can boot in windows with no problem and stay up for a few days, etc etc?
Assuming not, or you haven't really looked at it, you need to run a few tests. You can start with the easiest to get, a memory test like memtest. That shold be installed unless you unselected that option, so you can pick it fromt he GRUB boot menu. If you didn't install it, boot from CD or DVD with the SuSE install disc(CD 1 or the DVD) and it will give that option. Run memtest for a few hours, I usually say overnight so you have quite a few looped tests. Then post back here if you have any errors. If not, we will move on to testing other pieces of hardware before we say the RETAIL install media failed.
The good news for you, you purchased SuSE retail, and you have access to quite a bit there in terms of resources. You can call SuSE directly for support as well, see if they have an opinion about how to fix it.
If the Graphic desktop doesn't run properly pressing ctrl+alt+backspace would kill it and drop back to a command prompt with which you can run xorgconfig to try a different mouse.
After finsihing with xorgconfig typing
Code:
startx
can get you back to the Grapgic desktop.
It is usually a matter of selecting the right mouse for the job and a standard PS2 mouse is a lot easier to work with.
I had a similar problem when I installed SUSE 10. My problem ended up being an issue with the video driver. Here's what I had to do:
Download the driver in windows and save it to a usb drive (or floppy, or cd, or whatever)
Boot SUSE into the failsafe prompt
Install video drivers
Reboot
Everything worked great after that. I would suggest re-installing the drivers using YaST after that. It'll save some headaches when you update your kernel.
