No hard disk found error

Compaq DL360
Dual PIII 800MHz, 4GB RAM, Compaq Smart Array2, 2 18GB UltraSCSI 2 drives
Installing Novell (Suse) OES, during initial hardware probing I receive "no hard disk found" error.

I then attempted a manual installation, loading the kernel modules and selecting SCSI modules and selected the Compaq SMART2 RAID. The installation loads for a bit, I swap to disk 2, installation contines until I get a load error [red box] and at this point the installation is done.

Any help appreicated.

ps - New to Linux, but making a valiant effort to convert my shop. With assistance I think it can be done, please no flaming just help!

SuSE 9.1 or 9.2? I found significant problems with 9.1 and RAID controllers. So bad that we didn't upgrade our 9.0 servers to 9.1 (they wouldn't upgrade due to "no hard drives found"). Now that 9.2 is out, we had no problems.

Note, after I loaded the proper Array Controller the installation would go so far and fail on disk 2. I dug around a bit and recalled when I had loaded Windoes 2000 on these servers quite sometmie ago the system would bomb during installation due to so much RAM. So, I drop the system down to 1GB RAM and the installation went without a problem.

By the way, I am using Suse 9. Still using the demo, but hoping to learn enough to migrate from MS.

Is there any type of Service Pack/Update I should look for with this installation? Please keep in mind I am very MS'ed and trying to make the conversion. I assume there is some update site I should hit.

Please advise.

Do the "online update" in yast.

Brian,

Is it difficult to connect a SUSE server to a domain. I don't mind if my server obtanis it's IP via the DHCP server, but curious where I make the changes to make sure I can authenticate to my proxy server.

You're probably going to need to adapt the proxy server to the Linux box rather than the other way around. Can you allow outbound access by IP and then do a static DHCP assign with the MAC address of the Linux box? We ended up dumping our MS Proxy setup because we supported MS, Mac (9 and X), Linux, SCO, and BSD... The MS box was just to big a pain in the rear. You can do nice proxy setups with Linux

Unfortunately our proxy is not under my span of control.
