No Audio In Suse 9.3 With KDE

Ok, My computer is completely mute when running Suse. I already have all four multimedia updates from Yast. and have looked over everything in the control center. I checked all the hardware as well. The analog output cable is in place for CD support. It seems like I'm missing a driver.

Quickly, here is my setup:
Make: Home-built.
Motherboard: Asus K8V SE Deluxe
Processor: AMD 64 3400+
Graphics card: ATI All-In-Wonder 9600 Pro 128MB AGP
Harddrives: Dual boot / dual drive via GRUB
Seagate 200GB IDE (Suse 9.3)
Maxtor 300GB SATA (Windows XP)
Extentions: Sony DVD-R drive

I read a handful of other posts dealing with the problem, but found nothing that quite works. Gnome came up a lot, but I'm using KDE 3.4.0 level "b". All my media players work perfectly, there just isn't any audio output. The sound sytem in the control center is enabled, and my default player is realplayer. Suggestions anyone? thanks.

This may not be your issue but, Linux in general installs sound muted. Check a sound mixer like kmix. There is a global mute but also individual mutes for speaker, PCM, line in and etc.

Don't feel stupid. My desktop SuSE randomly turns the volume to zero while my laptop runs perfectly. It can be hit and miss with sound.
