Memory Usage with Suse 10

Maybe I didn't notice this before and maybe it isn't related to my recent change to Suse 10, but I have noticed some fairly heavy usage of memory. I therefore upgraded my memory to 2GB but now it seems I have a problem.

When I review my process table, I see that there are numerous entries for kio_http and my entire 2GB of memory is now occupied. This doesn't seem normal. What are these entries? How can I reduce memory usage or at least control what appears to be a runaway process, without having to kill them after they have started?
