kio_file and kio_http?

hi everyone, i've recently started using linux, specifically mandrake 9.2. sometimes in the processes list (ctrl+esc) there's a LOT of kio_file and kio_http processes, what can these be? how do i stop them from appearing again?
second question, when i went into this forum, every time i opened a page i got bombarded with download windows, and all of them downloaded automatically (didn't ask my permission), downloading konqueror????? files.... what can these be? it looks like from another ad website, if i'm not mistaken. does anyone know how to increase security in linux? right now i'm thinking of blocking all traffic from a specific source, say if i can block all traffic from www.adwis.com or something like that.
i'm sorry for the crudeness of the post this time :P
thank you in advance!

Go into the Settings menu then Configure Konqueror and in the Java & Javascript window select the Javascript tab then set the Open new windows to smart or deny the apply the changes and you can do per site policies as well. I not really sure what you mean about the process are they zombies hogging resources on the machine and slowing it down if not then just leave them alone they are most likely meant to be there.

first, thanks for the reply
i really don't think these KIO processes are supposed to be here. about 20 kio_file and kio_http? what are these anyway? btw the window title (in the taskbar) for the bombarding popups was kio_*something*. probably it has somehting to do with this...
any ideas how to solve this?
this is the "Command" for one of the kio_file processes :
kdeinit: kio_file file /tmp/ksocket-beta/klauncherJWG6eb.slave-socket /tmp/ksocket-beta/konqueror5Khnvb.slave-socket
the rest of the processes have ecatly the same command but other entries after "konqueror", example :
konquerorjr7Vpb.slave-socket
konquerorX2NDrb.slave-socket
this is the command for the kio_http processes:
kdeinit: kio_http http /tmp/ksocket-beta/klauncherJWG6eb.slave-socket /tmp/ksocket-beta/konqueror5Khnvb.slave-socket
with more strange combinations after the "konqueror"
does anyone know what's going on? i think it's pretty serious. a virus?
thanks!

EDIT : there's also ONE process kalled kio_uiserver, the command :
kdeinit: kio_uiserver
hope that gives a clue of what's happening?

update :P i went to google using konqueror and 2 kio_http processes appeared, and stays there even if i close konqueror down. went to yahoo and 3 more processes appeared. went to this forum, didn't create a new process. sacred forum? :P
why would this be? and they won't go even if i close konqueror too...

EDIT : the more i surf using konqueror the more kio_http entries there are, and they won't dissappear even if i close konqueror. apparently those downloads also increased the kio_file and kio_http processes.
i'm worried. please help! >_< and thenks...

EDIT AGAIN : using mozilla didn't give me that problem, the massive download didn't happen either. so konqueror isn't the best for internet browsing, like Windows Explorer isn't for surfing either. so i can live with surfing with mozilla. this quesiton isn't very urgent anymore. but out of curiosity, does anyone know what caused this? thanks!
