Thumbs down Kernel Panic - help

Twice i've gotten this error on this so called "good" operating system (suse linux 9.2 pro) When i reboot it'll tell me some driveready seekcomplete errors, and then i'll get

"kernel panic - noy syncing: UFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(3.6)

before this i get a bunch of "failed opcode was:unknown" "ReiserFS: hda6: warning: sh-2029: reoserfs read_bitmaps: bitmat block #32636928 reading failed" and some other nice errors, just from a reboot.. has happened twice, is there any way to fix this without reinstalling? not doing that again.

Driveready seekcomplete errors usually indicate a dying hard-disk, although it can also mean buggy DMA support on the disk controller.

You might be able to work around it by using either or both of the command-line options dma=off or acpi=off.

I'd also recommend making sure that you have all of the available SuSE updates installed, especially for the kernel, in case this is a known hardware bug for which a workaround has been written.
